Marvin Hamlisch shows how he works as a film music composer, including a special focus on the details for providing a score for the motion picture Starting Over. Filmed in California and New York, with an orchestra, in control rooms, at the movieola, and in Mr. Hamlisch’s home. Interviews with friends and colleagues include actor Joel Grey, Carole Bayer Sager (lyricist of the Bond film song Nobody Does It Better and Hamlisch’s musical They’re Playing Our Song), and actress Priscilla Lopez (who had a leading role in The Chorus Line.) Includes many film clips featuring Hamlisch scores. Mr. Hamlisch is in top form explaining, demonstrating, and of course joking. (When these scenes were filmed he had already won the Academy Award for the scores of the films The Way We Were and The Sting, and the Tony Award for the Broadway hit A Chorus Line).
