Product Description
Quintessence, Playbill Record's second collaboration with Tony Award winner and Broadway legend Betty Buckley, is a stunning tribute to Buckley's eighteen year working relationship with the legendary jazz great, Kenny Werner. This CD is the pair's ninth album together and is a perfect bookend to Betty Buckley 1967, released this past October. “1967” features a nineteen year old Buckley in her first ever studio recording. The resulting eleven tracks expose the young abandon and whimsical charisma of a girl who will one day become one of the Great White Way’s greatest talents. Conversely, “Quintessence”, oozes with the seasoned finesse of a musical virtuoso—a performance that travels the artistic landscape of one of the most distinguished and celebrated performers of today.

The title of the CD is a reference to the quintet of musicians who have played with Buckley for over a decade including: Werner (who plays piano, arranged and co-produced the tracks), Tony Marino on bass, Billy Drewes on reeds, Todd Reynolds on violin and Dan Weiss on drums.
