A Keepsake of Live Excerpts from Mourne, Eve and Arva
Fast becoming a cult phenomenon in Australia, The Kransky Sisters feature the enigmatic talents of Annie Lee, Christine Johnston and Michele Watt, as Mourne, Eve and Arva Kransky, three oddball spinsters from rural Queensland. On an old 60?s reed keyboard, guitar, musical-saw, tuba, and cooking pot, these unworldly sisters offer their offbeat illuminations on what they hear on their wireless and see in the magazines. Their unusual musical act draws on naiveté, spinsterhood and the somewhat gothic existence that forms the world of three eccentric sisters. Every show throws up whole crowds of Kransky converts.
Set to raise bottoms off chairs with their uniquely homespun versions of popular tunes heard on the old wireless that provides their nightly entertainment, they cover songs from Nana Mouskouri and The Carpenters, to Marvin Gaye, The SugarBabes and Pink. The combination of their strange behaviour, blinkered outlooks, superbly droll comic dialogue, and alluring, downright hilarious brand of tune, all makes for a highly entertaining brew.
This close-knit family of unlikely entertainers and their odd-ball music have warmed many hearts after their hit show We Don?t Have Husbands received a coveted Best-of-Festival Barry Award Nomination, and won ?The Age Critics? Choice Award? and the Melbourne Airport ?Best Newcomer? Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2004. Returning home after successful seasons at the 2005 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Opera House, Brisbane and Adelaide Cabaret Festivals, the sisters are now looking forward to sharing their music with audiences further afield.
If only you?d had the courage to visit those weird old aunts of yours years ago, you wouldn?t have had to wait until now to experience some of the joy The Kransky Sisters have to offer.
"Returning once again from their remote Queensland home, the Sisters are a frighteningly innovative trio. Armed with a tuba, ancient pink keyboard, folksy guitar and saw-violin, their renditions of tunes ranging from Pink Floyd to Jewel are effortlessly funny on their own. The Kranskys are comic creations of a disturbingly believable kind. Darkly hilarious and discomfortingly clever." - John Bailey, Beat Magazine 2005
